Best Battle Mats for Necromunda Ash Wastes

Hello, everyone!

Are you on the hunt for an incredible way to enhance your Necromunda Ash Wastes games, making them more immersive and visually captivating or are you just sick of the paper mat GW provided to us? That’s exactly what I was going through recently and I browsed countless websites to compare the battle mats they have! I’ve compiled a list of the best game mats available to elevate your Ash Wastes skirmishes. Discover these top-notch game mats to create a really nice set-up for your Necromunda session!

NB: The recommendation for the canvas is a Neoprene/Mousepad material. The minimum recommended size is 44″x30″.

1. DeepCut Studio – Wasteland V2

This mat totally nails the wasteland vibe! There’s not a single hint of green to be found, making the environment look super dry and arid. It really makes you wonder who would actually choose to live in such a desolate place, right? Plus, the colour scheme is pretty close to that iconic Mad Max aesthetic we all know and love. So not only does this mat give your game an authentic Ash Wastes feel, but it also brings a touch of that gritty, desertic style that’s just perfect for other scenery.

2. PWorkWargame – Ashlands

I’ve got to say, this battle mat is definitely the most true-to-lore one I’ve come across. But, honestly, it’s a bit depressing. It’s all shades of grey, with no pops of colour whatsoever – just a full-on grey spectrum. Perfect for an Ash Wastes environment for sure. Whatsoever, the design quality is seriously impressive! So, if you’re looking for that ultra-authentic Ash Wastes feel, this mat might just be the one for you.

3. DeepCut Studio – White Desert

Now, this mat might not be what most players initially envision for Ash Wastes, as many were expecting something with a strong Mad Max vibe when it was first released. However, if you dig into the lore, you’ll find that the focus is really on the grey, ashy hues of the desolate badlands out there. A white desert might just be the perfect way to capture that essence. So, while it might not be the typical choice, it definitely has its merits and can help create an accurate representation of the world.

Special mention: DeepCut Studio – Ash Wasteland

This next battle mat is seriously impressive, but I have to admit, I’m a bit biased when it comes to having roads printed on the mat. The pre-designed roads can feel limiting, as you don’t have the freedom to arrange them the way you want, and that can be a bit frustrating. After playing several games on mats with printed elements, I found myself feeling restricted by having to recreate the same patterns when setting up the terrain pieces. But hey, that’s just my personal take on it!
